As Fabric Row is changing to represent a new generation, improvements are being made to improve the street-level of 4th Street.

Progress is being made on the $1.3 million in streetscape improvements planned for the street, beginning with the first phase of trenching and the installation of power lines.

Earlier this year it was announced that the South Street Headhouse District received a $1.3 million grant for the installation of pedestrian lighting along 4th street from Lombard to Christian. The poles for this project are expected to rise by year end, since the grant money is only good through January 2016.

So far, the new power lines have been installed along 4th street and trenching has been completed. The next step is the street being prepped for the pole foundations for these new lights. Once completed, there will be a total of 50 new lights, along with new trees and curb repairs.

The improvements won’t stop with the installation of these new lights, though. Plans that were announced back in March 2013 include the addition of benches, planters, street art and more.
