No more Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken for Washington, new location of Baker Street Bread Company opening nearby

When news first broke about Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken considering a location at 20th and Washington, most were excited. They even received support from the Zoning Board of Adjustment. But their problem came down to the fact that they never had a lease signed for the location. Now a not quite as exciting prospect is coming to this part of Washington Avenue.

OCF Realty has signed a lease for the location, but that isn’t the only new thing coming to the area. A new location of Baker Street Bread Company, which already has a location on Germantown Avenue, will be coming to 20th and Alter.

More from Naked Philly:

The lack of progress is directly related to the fact that the franchisee never actually signed a lease for this location. Yes, they went to the trouble and expense of getting plans and renderings and then hired an attorney and went through the challenging zoning process for a project without an executed lease. A couple months ago, when the property owner was unable to move forward with the people from Gus’s, they started showing the property to other prospective tenants. It wasn’t long before a new tenant came forward, one that’s much less exciting than a fried chicken place with booze. Funny story, it turns out OCF Realty will be moving from 21st & South to 20th & Washington at some point in 2016. This is probably a good time to mention that this blog is owned by OCF Realty, in case you weren’t aware.

According to Naked Philly, this new location of Baker Street Bread Company will be offering counter service, in addition to the operation for their Center City wholesale business.

Damn, I have been wondering what is going on with Gus’s. I hope the franchisee is able to find a new location.
