1st Ward Sandwich closes in Pennsport

Lately there’s been good news rolling in for Pennsport, with the area’s new status as “neighborhood of the year” and restaurants like Neon Lobster and The Wild Burrito coming soon to the area.

But with the good comes bad. Recently Fourth and Cross announced their permanent closure, now another restaurant that has also been open for less than a year here has called it quits. 1st Ward Sandwich, located at the corner of Front and Morris, closed last week.

The shop first opened in June, offering 13 different types of sandwiches.

Can’t say I agree with that. Location was difficult.

Great sandwiches. Price point probably too high for the neighborhood/location. The hours of operation was terrible. I went there probably about six times and dug it. Would’ve went a lot more if they were open later. Its a shame. A sandwich shop that closes at 3 pm on a Sunday is destined to fail.

My wife and I tried to place an order for pickup by phone over the summer and they told us it would be an hour and a half because they were too busy. Needless to say we didn’t place the order and never attempted to give them another chance. Not surprising that they didn’t last.

Totally agree with BK. Irregular business hours made it difficult to consider for take out options. Also, priced too high and portions were small.
