First Pics: Samwich opening soon at 6th and Catharine

When Square Pie announced their move from the small location at 6th and Catharine to the larger, former Cochon location across the street, the owners of Northern Liberties restaurant Suppa jumped on the opportunity.

In November they announced a new restaurant, called Samwich, that would be opening in this location. Now the restaurant is almost ready to open, likely by the end of the week, pending the results of their upcoming inspection.

The space is pretty small, with seating for only about 10 people. Previously Square Pie had tables, but to save space, Samwich has converted the restaurant to include bar-like seating all around. Other changes made at the location are mostly aesthetic, with fresh paint and new decorations with things like pallet boards and artwork from family members.

Their menu consists of soups, salads, and of course their selection of samwiches. Owners Angelo Polito and Georgeann Leaming consider Suppa’s menu as “eclectic comfort food with a twist” and that’s pretty much what they want to continue in this location. Options range from a Cubano melt to a lasagna sandwich (yes, it’s literally lasagna on a sandwich with garlic bread as the bun) and other comforts like their signature mac and cheese. There will also be a selection of grab and go pastries from Leaming’s daughter who is in culinary school.

Since the location is so small, they will mostly be operating through takeout and delivery. You’ll be able to find Samwich on both Grubhub and Caviar.

This is the second restaurant for Leaming and Polito, but they hope to eventually continue to expand to more locations of Samwich, pending the restaurant’s success in this location.

At this point, Samwich is unsure of what their hours will be. For now, you should be able to stop in between 11:3o a.m. and 9 p.m. They’re hoping to open on Friday afternoon, pending the status of their inspection that morning. You can keep up with Samwich and Suppa on Facebook.
