$1.2 million in improvements coming to Lanier Playground at 29th and Tasker

A meeting was held last week to present the final version of improvements that will be coming to this Grays Ferry park.

Lanier Playground at 29th and Tasker will be seeing as much as $1.2 million in improvements. The plans for this include stormwater improvements that are currently happening at the park, along with plans for a baseball field, dog park, walking path, sprinkler park and more.

According to the Grays Ferry Civic Association, there are currently stormwater improvements underway as part of the Green City, Clean Waters program that you might remember from proposed projects like the one at Guerin Rec Center. The improvements to water drainage here includes a water filtration system to filter 40 thousand gallons of stormwater. These water drainage improvements will be completed at the park by April or May.

The next step is then the bigger picture for the playground, with some much-needed changes to this community space. Construction for the park will be bringing improvements to the entire space. Expect to see a baseball field, dog park, ampitheater, fitness park area, sprinkler park and a tree garden. This project is expected to cost upwards of $1.2 million, with the funding for the project still pending.

As long as things move forward smoothly with the funding and construction, this park project could be completed sometime over the summer, by either June or July.
