Broad and Washington snow pile gets a graffiti makeover

We recently asked you how long it would take for the massive post-blizzard snow pile to melt at Broad and Washington.

The snow is still there, but it’s now seen a Valentine’s Day graffiti treatment from street artist Keech.

Conrad Benner of Streets Dept. posted these photos of Keech’s snow mound love note to his wife. As Benner says, “What better use for the littered, car fume-stained snow mounds of a South Philly parking lot than a fleeting graffitied Valentine’s Day note?”

    Glorifying graffiti by publicizing it will only reinforce to graffiti thugs (they are NOT artists) that what they do is OK. And then we wonder why graffiti is re-emerging as a scourge in the city. He should be arrested, not glorified. If he wants to send his wife a Valentine’s message, he should give her a card like everyone else!

      Since when is graffiti not an art? You sound like a complete idiot. Sounds like the words of a bitter, untalented human being, who gets her jollies by trolling the talent in your city.
      Keech not only gives his time and talents to the community, but also holds benefits to raise money for cancer research, and not to mention makes the city a better looking place. Who are you to call someone a thug? Sounds like you’re the thug here, internet tough guy.

        When your buildings get hit up with graffiti and it takes money and time to remove it, you will see that graffiti on private property is very much a crime. I wonder how many people that engage in graffiti would do it on their own buildings, home or car? On mountains of snow — no problem — but on buildings where graffiti, left unabated, brings down property values and a neighborhood’s quality of life declines — than it is very much an issue … and, in my opinion, it is not art. You can have your opinion, I’ll have mine, but just because someone’s opinion differs from yours doesn’t give one the right to put them down and call them names. And to post anonymously is being a coward.

          Really you want to state that you are just giving your opinion yet you then bash the other person for saying your opinion is wrong … That is their opinion is it not? Lets be honest here you hate graffiti and you see this as graffiti. Others will not see it as a form of graffiti but more of a street art form. Ether way stating he should just give a card like everyone else is a statement I think you should reconsider … why should he have to show his love to this wife the same way everyone else is doing? Can he not use his artistic skills to give her something special ? I did not give my wife a card so does that mean I was wrong ? Maybe some one at some time in your life should have given you something more then a card for V-day and you might be able to appreciate what Keech did for his wife .. in my opinion. – See more at: https://passyunkpost.com/2016/02/15/broad-and-washington-snow-pile-gets-a-graffiti-makeover/#comment-226562

        I hate to piss in your Cheerios, but Just because you are convinced you are right doesn’t make it a fact;
        Graffiti on a snow pile is no biggie but defacing public and private property is a blight on society.

          How curious. I find it brings life amidst decay. Almost like an sprayed/sharpied fungal bloom on a rotten swath of concrete.

      Haha funny! Because the dude actually just did a fund raiser selling art to raise money for breast cancer. Should he still be arrested now? Get your facts straight before speaking.

      Arrested for graffiting snow? How is that a crime? What property is he vandalizing? What is wrong with you?

      I’d rather walk with mines and my friends’ trailmarkers, instead of endless construction barrel. When people graffiti hate speech, I might agree with you.
      …but actually, I think that folks are missing the mark. Institutional landmarks representing assholes [coughRIZZOcoughCHRISTOPHERCOLUMBUScough] remain blank canvasses. How much money is wasted on cleaning up after them? We should just tear them down. That solves two “problems”.

    Oh dear…someone is truly butt hurt by the graffiti art as well as the sentiment. It must hurt being such a sour puss.

    Dear Keech, what a beautiful piece of art & sentiment to your wife. Happy Valentine’s Day to you both. Keep on keeping on with the art my man.
