Spotted: Netting being installed along CSX bridge

Plans were in announced in April for improvements for the CSX bridge along 25th Street.

The beginning phases are being completed now, including the installation of netting to prevent additional concrete from falling and hurting pedestrians or vehicles. This is to prevent incidents like this one in April, where concrete fell onto the passenger-side of a sedan.

This first phase, which includes $4 million in netting for the bridge, was originally set to be completed by the end of 2015. Some of the netting is just starting to go up now, as shown in the photo, with the east-side of the bridge from Jackson to Snyder having been covered to this point.

After this phase is completed, the repair project will move forward with three more phases. This is when repairs will be made to the drainage system, parapet walls will be replaced and the underside of the bridge will be resurfaced. These steps will take longer to completed, with an estimated timeline of three to five years.
