New mixed-use development coming to 12th and Washington
12th and Washington will be seeing a new mixed-use development.
Plans for this property include 5-stories, 48 apartments, 15 parking spaces and a ground-floor commercial space. This corner property was originally listed for $1.2 million in 2014.

A post on the Washington Avenue Associates Facebook page tipped us off that the City has issued a zoning permit for the demolition of the building and the construction of a five-story project with 48 apartments, 15 parking spots, and a sizable commercial space. Remember, when we shared the listing, it came with a recommendation for a similar project, albeit with an additional level of apartments. The Facebook post also included a very simple elevations drawing of what we can expect to see built here.

Not sure if I’m understanding those elevations correctly but it looks like the residential has no windows facing Washington?

Great great news. I’ve been convinced that that block would never get any better. Trash and too quiet. I would love to see better connectivity with Hawthorne.
Can our city support all of these apartments being built?
it seems apartments are being built everywhere, but without the schools much of the tax base will leave once they have kids. Im predicting a lot of vacancies in these huge buildings
Or the schools will improve based on greater involvement and enrollment, like the ones in our neighborhood are doing…..
When the tax base has kids, it will leave and be replaced by another tax base that doesn’t have kids… repeat… repeat… repeat… until sending a kid to public school isn’t laughable.
Yes, it will take decades, but in the meantime more nice apartments is a good thing.
