Charge Performance and Wellness will use barbells, kettlebells and other equipment that emphasizes movement in running, jumping, climbing and throwing. This fitness center is expected to open later in April at 928 Christian St.

More from Philly Mag:

Charge will offer small group-training classes (mostly morning and evening classes) and personal training. Along with their regularly scheduled programming, Scogna tells us he also has plans to team up with other fitness groups in Philly — think: November Project, the Rocky 50K, Back on My Feet — for events in the gym and outside of the gym. And the USA Track and Field-certified coach says he may also start a Charge running group, with the goal of getting folks in the community who might not know much about running involved. “There are so many opportunities in this city to just open my door and have people experience fitness in a communal way. I have so many mad-scientist ideas in my head,” Scogna says.

A peek inside the building:

According to Charge’s website, there are different levels of membership. You can stop in for one class for a $25 fee, or sign up for multiple class passes. You can read more about those options here.

Wow, those prices are even higher per class than CrossFit!

Seems really expensive…crossfit is much cheaper than this. you can get unlmited access to a crossfit gym for 150 a month, and that includes going to as many “classes” as you want

I guess they’re trying to be a rich person’s cross fit…? If so, they should try and differentiate by advertising what makes them a more “high end” experience than cross fit and the like… People who already know how to work out and don’t need “classes” should balk at such pricing though.. Especially if you play a sport like pickup basketball or soccer.. Things that can be done relatively cheap or even for free.

Can’t wait to see the new basketball court that they put in at the new Blatstein property on Broad & Washington! Hopefully they make it grown folks size. With a 3 point line that is at least collegiate distance, but pro distance would be great! Or both!

They could try to differentiate themselves from CrossFit by not being a weird cult that turns its participants into people who are capable of talking only about CrossFit.

Though, yeah, shit seems expensive. Maybe South Philly really IS the next Brooklyn.

OH GOD THE HUMANITY, god forbid people talk about something they are interested in and actually makes their lives better! What total assholes

Sounds like a great fitness center, but much too pricey.
Wish one if these fitness centers would offer some good old type if classes in early morning. So many do not start til 9 am. Doesn’t anybody work?

So much of the training is geared to circuit type. Would love to just have some classes that were fun & a workout…and affordable.

Pricing is getting out if hand.
