Councilman Johnson introduced two bills to push Broad and Washington Lincoln Square project forward

Just after receiving positive feedback from the community at a South of South Neighborhood Association meeting this week, the Lincoln Square developers are receiving some more positive news.

In order for the project to move forward at Broad and Washington, the Alterra Group’s plans call for the rezoning of the property from industrial to mixed-use. Councilman Kenyatta Johnson is now introducing two bills that could make the process much easier for the proposed nine-story complex with 356 apartments, 360 parking spots, a grocery store, various other retailers and more.

Councilman Kenyatta Johnson introduced two bills on Thursday that would allow Alterra Property Group to build a nine-story, 356-unit apartment complex and grocery store at the northwest corner of Broad Street and Washington Avenue, across the street from the vacant lot where Bart Blatstein is hoping to build a 32-story tower with a fourth-floor retail village.

One bill would rezone the property from I-2 industrial to CMX-3, a commercial mixed-use category. The other wouldexempt the property from a number of requirements in the Washington Avenue West Overlay, allowing an eating and drinking establishment, increasing the permitted occupied area, and allowing non-accessory parking.
