Kawaii Kitty Cafe now aiming for mid-May opening

It’s been a while since we’ve heard an update from the much-hyped cat cafe coming to Fabric Row.

Kawaii Kitty Cafe was originally aiming for a January or February opening date, but due to the long process of acquiring permits and inspections, along with construction being completed on the shop, the cafe has been forced to push back the date. Now it’s almost time for this cafe to open. You’ll be able to drink a catpuccino and hang out with adoptable cats from PAWS starting in mid-May.

A peek at the cat room.

The location is still under construction, but the two separate spaces are starting to come together. The cat room at the front of the location is an explosion of the cutesy items that you’d expect from a cat cafe in Japan. The room is painted pink, with other pastel accents throughout. The other side of the shop, where you can order coffee and hangout without cats, is supposed to be the crisp, clean contrast to the cat room. Co-owner and chef Joe Ronca considers the two space as a “Japanese tea house v.s. Disney World.”

A look at the cafe area. Still very much under construction, but the tiling and counters are complete.

Once Kawaii Kitty Cafe is ready to open, you’ll be able to enjoy coffee from local coffee roaster, Other Animal. The menu will include  dessert “sushis,” whipped cream, strawberry and mint leaf sandwiches on milk bread and other sweet options. The cafe also plans to host events, ranging from wine nights in the cat room, to sleepover events for kids.
