Rival Bros Coffee to open in former Chiarella’s Ristorante location at 11th and Tasker

Pretty soon East Passyunk Avenue will have a new spot to grab a cup of joe.

chiarella's
Rival Bros Coffee, the Philly-based custom coffee roasters with a shop at 24th and Lombard, will soon be joining Black and Brew, Chhaya and others on the avenue in serving coffee. This shop is set to open in the former Chiarella’s Ristorante location at 11th and Tasker.

Expect to see a similar setup to the Lombard Street location. Rival Bros will be serving pastries from High Street on Market and house-made toasts and sandwiches from co-owner, Jonathan Adams.

Chiarella’s closed in this location across from the Singing Fountain back in June of 2015. Rival Bros will be joining soon-to-open Perla, Gennaro’s, Noord and others in the area.

Owners Adams and Damien Pileggi are working on renovations at the shop and according to their social media posts about this new location, plan to open “within the coming months.”

That’s 3 coffee shops in that one diagonal block between Tasker and Dickinson. I’m never going to sleep again.

Not including Essen, which I think I will try right now!

and potentially another at 12th and annin. I wouldn’t be surprised if one closes due to competition. As long as it isn’t Essen (THAT BABKA!) or Rival’s (I’m a fan of the 23rd st location), I’ll be ok.

But only one of them is a third wave coffee shop. This will be a huge improvement and great addition to the neighborhood!

Agree with tor. Plus this is on Tasker, major foot traffic to/from the sub.

They said they wanted to, but the plan was always to reopen somewhere else.

Perhaps you should contact them for a follow-up?

The B2 building was listed for sale a while ago so they probably knew this was coming for a while.
