Mekong River closes in Pennsport for Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Center expansion

In 2013 a $4.1 million 24-hour veterinary center opened in Pennsport at 1114 S. Front St. That facility, called Veterinarian Specialty & Emergency Center, will soon be expanding, at the cost of one of Pennsport’s restaurants.

The Vietnamese restaurant called Mekong River is now closed at the intersection of Front and Titan.

More from Philly.com:

Owner Liem Ma says the Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Center next door wanted to expand, and made him an offer he couldn’t refuse.

Ma is scouting for a new location.

That’s a shame for Pennsport restaurant goers, but good for the vet I guess. How about going a little further south for the new location? Could use more restaurants there.

They conviently forget to mention they were cited for over 30 health code violations including rodent dropping on their food. This was one of my families favorite places to dine but not obviously anymore

Passyunk post, why do you have to be so sensational?? Do you have to frame every story like it’s a tragedy to get people to read your stories?? This is a GREAT turn of events for the community. VSEC is an incredible organization, full of caring and compassionate people who are operating a stable, professional business. The restaurant is receiving a very good deal for their space, according to your own story, and will occupy another retail space in the area once they relocate. Why not report this as a positive story?? People ARE interested in those too.

      1. A restaurant closed and the vet is expanding…straightforward headline
      2. The vet is expanding (hooray), but is there a cost to the neighborhood? Oh, right, they lose a restaurant
      3. The restaurant is closed because the vet made them a big offer

What about that is tragic or sensationalized? Pretty short and to the point.
