Beer gardens popping up at Jefferson Square, FDR Park this summer

The South Street West Pennsylvania Horticultural Society pop-up garden won’t be the only beer garden in South Philly this summer.

Earlier this year the Department of Parks and Recreation and the Fairmount Park Conservancy announced a plan to operate beer gardens throughout the city at various parks. Two South Philly community spaces will be transformed for a few days this summer for Parks on Tap.

The South Philly participants include FDR Park at 1500 Pattison Ave. and Jefferson Square at 3rd and Washington.

Here’s some more info from Foobooz:

Each Parks on Tap location will feature two concession trucks, one with local craft beers, wine and a selection of non-alcoholic beverages. The second truck will offer a menu of sandwiches, salads, pies-in-jars and grab-n-go items. The spaces will have a simple aesthetic, ample seating and of course restrooms. The pop-up beer gardens will laos have live music, games and pre-packaged picnics.

The Jefferson Square garden will operate from August 3 through August 7. The FDR Park pop-up will be from September 2 through September 4. Hours for the beer gardens will be Friday and Saturday from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m., and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Cool beans, but only one weekend per pop-up? They’re gonna be mobbed. Better to pop-up for a month or two and spread the attendance out over time.
