What areas of South Philly are off-limits during the DNC?
From July 25 through July 28, about 50,000 people are expected to come into the city for the Democratic National Convention, happening at the Wells Fargo Center.
Since the home-base for the convention is here in South Philly, some road closures have been announced for the Stadium District-area.
According to this map released by the Secret Service, Broad Street from Packer Avenue to the Navy Yard will be closed from 12 p.m. on July 29, through to July 19. Pattison Avenue from 7th to Broad, Terminal Avenue from Broad to 11th and 11th from Hartranft to Terminal will also closed off to traffic.

Secret Service representatives held a press conference Thursday afternoon along with city and state officials to answer questions about security preparations. Secret Service officials wouldn’t comment on how they made decisions about where to draw the security perimeter, only saying that it was no larger than it needs to be. They also wouldn’t comment on how high the fence around the event center would be. Police Commissioner Richard Ross said residents in surrounding neighborhoods should expect extra traffic and police activity. Deputy Managing Director Brian Abernathy said the city is still working through demonstration permits.
Please clarify the dates of the road closures in paragraph 3. “closed from 12 p.m. on July 29, through to July 19.”
Broad Street will be closed from Packer Avenue down to the Navy Yard from noon on July 23rd until “late evening” on July 29th.
I wonder how employees of businesses in the Navy Yard will be getting to work that week. Will they close everything?
There’s an entrance on 26th and Penrose.
What about those who work at the navy yard who don’t have cars? Also, do you know if bikes are allowed down Broad St- to the navy yard? Gotta get to work somehow, ugh.
