Urban Youth Academy baseball facility now open at Marian Anderson Rec Center

In October, ground was broken for the Major League Baseball Urban Youth Academy that would bring a state of the art baseball facility for kids to Marian Anderson Rec Center at 17th and Fitzwater.

That new facility, called the Ryan Howard Training Center, was unveiled yesterday.

The Urban Youth Academy is a 7,500 sq. ft. addition to the already-existing community center. Within this new facility, you’ll find batting cages and other practice space that will allow more than 8,000 kids to continue to practice their sport year-round in a safe environment. In addition to the athletic element of the program, the Urban Youth Academy also emphasizes the importance of education.

Last year the outdoor portion of the Urban Youth Academy was opened at FDR Park. That location has two baseball and two softball fields.
