ShopRite announces September 1 grand opening for new Whitman Plaza location

Last summer A&P filed for bankruptcy, forcing a number of the company’s Pathmark and SuperFresh grocery stores to close. Among the closures was the Pathmark located in Whitman Plaza.

Once that large grocery storefront became available, the ShopRite located on Snyder Avenue decided it was time for a move. At the end of August, the Snyder location will close, with the new location at 330 Oregon Ave. opening just a few days later at the beginning of September.

Expect to see an overall larger retail space with an in-store cafe, an expanded ShopRite From Home pick-up and delivery area, an in-store dietician, more space for catering services, and even more space for the training and break rooms for the staff of the grocery store.

The Snyder location will close on Monday, August 29. The grand opening ceremony for the new Whitman Plaza location will be happening on Thursday, September 1. After the ribbon cutting ceremony ends at 10 a.m, you’ll be able to shop.

Any news on interest in that space, or the old Super Fresh space on Columbus Blvd? Pennsporters will be pretty limited for a one-stop-shop grocery store until something occupies one of those spots. A lot of people who frequent that ShopRite walk there.

Sounds like the new one will be nice though!

I actually emailed TJ’s corporate that those locations would be great for one of their stores (actually they are both probably too big – but one can dream).

I have also emailed TJ’s and posted on their FB page 🙁 so far no plans, even though there is plenty of room and tons of parking.

Has anyone heard anything about what may be going into the former ShopRite location on Snyder Avenue??
