HomeGrown Coffee & Creations to open instead of Puffessor Vape

We just told you about a new vape shop that would be coming to 1406 Jackson St. Very soon after sharing that news, Puffessor Vape switched concepts to something the owners believe will blend better with the neighborhood.

Instead of vape, this location will soon become a coffee shop called HomeGrown Coffee & Creations.

Jimmy Rossoni and his nephew, Christian Sassani, plan to open this shop later in August. Sassani recently moved to Philadelphia from Florida and had the idea to open a business, which is where the idea for a vape shop emerged. Because of the rate of the PA wholesale tax, they decided to switch to the concept Rossoni had in mind all along: a coffee shop.

Rossoni is a woodworker, so he has plans for custom furniture to bring an eclectic and unique feel to the space. One piece of furniture he is building is a table that blends together his woodworking, some concert mementos from a family member, including things like David Bowie and Pink Floyd ticket stubs, and guitars for the table legs. There will be plenty of other unique items throughout the shop. HomeGrown will display artwork from a number of local artists, ranging from abstract paintings to crochet.

The shop will serve a menu of basic coffee offerings, with hot and iced and espresso drinks. They have not yet settled on a coffee roaster, but are currently leaning towards the fair trade company, Peace Coffee. There will be no cooking happening on the premises, but there will be food at the shop. Baked goods from Vegan Commissary and bagels from South Street Bagels are expected to be served at HomeGrown Coffee & Creations. In the future, they hope to add a selection of quick grab food items.

Once the shop is open, they plan to host a range of weekly events. Craft workshops, open mic nights, short film premieres, art galleries and more events will be happening at the shop to bring in the community after the normal shop hours. To engage some of the older residents in the area, Rossoni says they will be hosting Sundays with Sinatra to appeal to that part of the neighborhood’s demographic.

Hours are still being worked out, but the shop is expected to be open from around 6:30 a.m. through 6 p.m. The shop would then reopen around 8:30 or 9, depending on whether an event is happening that evening.

Hi I am the Co- Owner of Homegrown I want you to know I do not vape or ever have. The reason we went this route was because it was better for the neighborhood and It was a long brewing idea of ours. I was born and raised in south philly if your such a concerned citizen why did it take me an hour and a half to clear the trash and weeds from the property. You know nothing about us and your opinion is toxic do something for your neighborhood before you reply about us. With that said I will be at the coffee shop to talk about anything you would like to do to improve things first cup of coffee is on the house I will bet money you do not show have a good day.

I live two blocks away and think this is a great idea. I’ve never been a Starbucks fan and am happy to support anything local.

Bizarre. Moving to Philly from FL to open a business…any business. Instead of vape, now it’s coffee. I’m glad to hear it, but how strange is that?

Just to be clear my nephew moved here to get away from a area with no potential. There is no better place to start a business than where you live. We will be happy to have you as a customer see you soon.
