Sausage Fest returns to West Passyunk Avenue this weekend with beer, entertainment and more

Sausage Fest, the street festival dedicated to beer, sausage and most importantly, community building, is back for its second year on Saturday, September 10.

The Newbold CDC will be giving 100% of the proceeds from the event back into the community to support the cleaning program for the area.

Not only does the Newbold CDC contribute the money back into the community, but since 2014 they have been working with a group called Horizon House, which gives opportunities to adults who have had problems with development disabilities, drug or alcohol addiction and homelessness. A cleaning crew from Horizon House’s workforce program is hired by the Newbold CDC to clean the commercial corridors along Snyder and West Passyunk Avenues. Last year’s event raised $11,000 for the cleaning program.

At this year’s event, you’ll be able to try sausages from 10 vendors, including options from restaurants like Chaat and Chai, Mike’s BBQ and T&N Kitchen. Beer options will be from craft breweries including Nodding Head, Philadelphia Brewing, Forgotten Boardwalk and others. If you’re planning on drinking at the event, there’s still time to buy advance beer tickets to save a little money at the festival. You can buy drink tickets here.

There is a lineup of local musicians who will be playing throughout the day, a children’s area with plenty of activities, and artists and other vendors that will be setting up at the event.

Sausage Fest will be set up at Broad and West Passyunk Avenue. The festival runs from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. The children’s activities will end at 4 p.m. You can find out more about Sausage Fest on the event’s website.

    Eeeek!!!

Horizon House works in tandem with companies that like to buy property and turn them into section 8 homes that are more like half way houses. They come in and protect the tenants whenever they get in trouble too. So if a tenant is constantly bringing the police or fire department to the area, and you write letters to the owners of the property, they tell ya that Horizon House advocating on the tenant’s behalf has somehow prevented them from getting rid of the tenant. Columbus Property management told me and a few neighbors that line more than a few times.
