39-unit apartment building coming to 15th and Federal

The former auto body shop at 15th and Federal is about to become a 39-unit apartment building.

The property sold for $2 million a few months ago and now demolition and planning is beginning for this by-right construction.

The apartment building will only take up a portion of the property, and the Federal frontage will remain vacant for a short time while the developer figures out the direction they wish to take. It’s possible we’ll see another residential building here, while mixed-use could also be a possibility. We shall see, but it’s a safe bet that it will at the very least include some additional density which takes advantage of proximity to the Broad Street Line. Perhaps, once both the 15th Street side and the Federal Street side get redeveloped, this intersection will begin to feel like it’s catching up, development-wise, with other parts of Point Breeze.
