Palumbo Park renovation complete in Bella Vista

In February of 2016 we told you about the renovation project for Palumbo Park at 723 Catharine St. The expected completion date was originally set for early this summer, but due to some construction delays, the timeline shifted for a fall finish.

The new-and-improved park space is now open to the public.

A new handicap ramp has been installed, there’s a larger entrance for the park along Catharine Street, a shorter fence surrounding the space for better visibility, new tables and benches and more planting areas and other landscaping details. Some of the trees with structural deficiencies were removed, along with the large light that was once in the center of the park. The one 30′ light was replaced with six 14′ lighting fixtures for better lighting and security.

The park was redesigned to allow for different levels of activity throughout the space. There are more secluded benches, along with open spaces with picnic tables. Palumbo reopened to the public at the end of October, but expect to see an official ribbon cutting in the near future.

Do you want to help maintain this community space? Palumbo is one the 25 South Philly parks participating in the Love Your Park service day later this month.
