Civic Design Review votes in support of Lincoln Square

The mixed-use development from the Alterra Group being planned for Broad and Washington received support from the Civic Design Review earlier this week, but not without a few critiques.

The Lincoln Square project is expected to include nine-stories and 322 apartments, with a mix of retail tenants on the ground floor, and even a grocery store being planned for the historic train shed.

“I applaud the developer for working with the historic building,” said committee chair Nancy Rogo-Trainer, “but I think the lower level of the main building needs as much love and attention as the upper part.”

Rogo-Trainer, the only member to vote against conclusion of the CDR process, said it bottom half of the 9-story building “looks like a placeholder.”

PlanPhilly also noted concerns expressed by Matthew Pickering about the use of 15th Street as a delivery entrance, “treating 15th Street like an alley.”

According to Curbed, if all continues to go as planned, Lincoln Square could break ground in February 2017.
