The “Miracle on 13th Street” has already lit up as a bright reminder of the holidays. The Singing Fountain tree is the next South Philly spectacle to see holiday lights. On Thursday, December 1, a tree lighting ceremony will be held on East Passyunk Avenue.

The family-friendly event will allow the community to gather for holiday performances, caroling from Andrew Jackson Elementary’s students, longer business hours at some of the Avenue’s shops, and more holiday-themed fun. Santa Claus will be at the event to greet the neighborhood kids, while everyone enjoys cookies and other snacks to truly kick off the holiday season.

If you’re interested in giving back to the community while attending the event, you can drop off new and unwrapped toys, which Alphabet Academy is collecting for Toys for Tots.

If you’re looking to stock up on gifts and crafty things while out on Thursday, B2 will be hosting a holiday craft fair from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The coffee shop will also be collecting warm clothing items to send to the protesters at Standing Rock. If you’d like to drop off coats, socks, hats, gloves or similar items, you are welcome to bring them to the shop between now and the weekend. Cash donations will also be accepted to offset the cost of shipping the items collected this week.

The event runs from 5 p.m. through 7 p.m.

As much as I love the neighborhood, I think this is one of the ugliest Xmas tree ever. There has to be a way to do it differently!

the alternative would be to take up space in the already constrained triangle. Probably not worth it.

Haha yes I agree it is an ugly tree. The ugliness though I find somewhat charming.

The Christmas tree is definitely goofy looking, but I love it. Each year I look forward to the lighting of the triangle Christmas turd.
