Lume Creative Learning Studios to open in former Boutique W location
The 1200 sq. ft. storefront at 1916-18 E. Passyunk Ave. is about to get a new tenant.
Lauren Parker, formerly the co-owner of Mew Gallery that closed at 9th and Christian in 2010, is opening a new creative learning studio with workshops for visual arts, movement and music. Lume is expected to open in January or February.
The classes offered at Lume will be for children and adults. The arts center will include creative opportunities, ranging from a build-your-own teepee class to meditation workshops, Thirsty Thursday’s Amateur Hour for adults to craft while enjoying beverages, and other opportunities for creative learning. There will be gallery exhibits featuring local artists, pop-up events and workshops, along with other activities and events happening at the space.
Most recently this storefront was very briefly the home of a Bernie Sanders campaign office. Prior to that, Boutique W was located here for less than a year, replacing the long-standing Sammi’s Shoe Box.
Lume is still in the process of renovating the space, but is aiming to be opened for a few open house events in January. A grand opening celebration should be held in February. You can keep up with the latest on Lume on Facebook.
