Explore Bok Beyond the Bar
There’s more to Bok than just its rooftop bar.
Providing studio, office and retail space for creatives of all types, BOK is “work-home” to over 80 artists, makers, small businesses, non-profits and beyond. A pop-up boutique and art exhibition by South Philly creatives will keep the building full of activity this summer.
The event takes place on Saturday, June 10th. 4-10pm.
“Begin the night by exploring exhibitions throughout the building to see the artwork and meet the artists inside BOK. Be sure to head up to the exclusive south terrace of the 8th floor where a pop-up boutique will showcase clothing and furnishings by BOK makers. After 8 PM, make your way to Fringe Salon for live music and artwork until 10 PM – or up to Bok Bar for drinks!” – studios@Bok present: 2nd Saturday off Passyunk Avenue
It’s really a shame that a bar was allowed to open in a residential neighborhood under the auspices of being a community improvement project. Blaring music at 1am isn’t improving the community, and the breaks and free advertising awarded to it just help to line the developer’s pocket.

Have you been to Bok? They do not “blare” their music? I am surprised you can actually hear them because i cannot when walking past there. Are you superman?

Heard the music on 11th several nights last summer.
I believe what you’re hearing is the guy who plays his car stereo out front of his house on Moore as loud as possible at all hours of the day and night. Definitely not Bok.
Also, you’ve clearly never taken part in any of their community activities, or family sundays, or art shows, etc. But I’m sure you’re heartbroken about the school being closed (when you complained about the students before it was closed), people coming from outside the neighborhood (when it’s actually good for the neighborhood), and OMG THE PARKING!!! (OMG!!!)!!!
Those things all sound great, will be sure to take advantage of the offerings. How does a bar contribute to any of that?
Oh. And they’re having a special event with Questlove on Sunday afternoon and evening (it’s over at 10). So you better shut those windows or you might hear the faint sounds of a lively neighborhood.

Update: the wind must be just right tonight, because I can almost hear the conversations of the people at Bok if I go to my second floor window. Amazing since the music is so loud there that it can be heard on 11th.
I live on 10th and I’ve never heard anything. I also take my dog to their dog run and can’t recall ever hearing anything even at the foot of their building. Overall, I’ve always been excited about the rooftop bar and I’m glad to see the interior units are getting some press time. Can’t wait to see what’s inside!
Music was a bit loud yesterday, but nothing terrible. My bigger concern was that someone was allegedly attacked last night at 9:30ish at the corner of Moore and 9th. I didn’t see it, but when I walked my dogs there were cops and neighbors on that corner and there was talk that there was a fight and someone got hit with a pipe. Dry blood was everywhere on the sidewalk this morning. I’m hoping that this was unrelated to Bok, but given that there was an all day party going on for their grand opening event yesterday it’s a bit concerning. Hopefully this does not turn into a trend throughout the season
It wasn’t a grand opening event. It was a special event with Questlove that used to be held at Morgan’s Pier. As for the incident, I heard this morning from neighbors that it was related to an earlier traffic incident.

That was my neighbor (who did the attacking), he got into a fight with someone he knows.
It had nothing at all to do with Bok, and everything to do with him being a friggin idiot, which he has been for years.
There was not a problem with noise the last two years, but this year there is. I am shocked by the hateful trolling of us neighbors-who are just trying to live our lives with our families. I have been communicating with someone from the bar, and he seems to be trying to be respectful. But Sunday’s event was incredibly loud. The sound travels differently on each side of the building. You don’t hear it as loudly on the sidewalk right there as you do further away.
There are many immigrant families being affected who will not speak up. I understand their fear when even those of us who have lived in So Philly a long time get attacked when we complain.
Sunday was loud. No other night has been. But again, Sunday was a special event. I expect that you will also be complaining about the next block party, or serenade, or Rock the Block on Passyunk then?
And the problem isn’t that someone was complaining about noise. It was that a neighbor was complaining about the entire existence of the bar by stating things that they know nothing about.
The guy who plays music in his car at all hours, and the house on segal that sets off fireworks at midnight, and the people fighting over god knows what on a regular basis are far more of a neighborhood disturbance than a bar 8 floors above street level that doesn’t play loud music
Exactly three days after I stated the place was loud and you disagreed, the excuse is “special event”. Weird right?
Also quit complaining about your neighbors just living their lives. Maybe you should head to the burbs if you can’t handle living so close to people.
