What's Happening in:  East Passyunk Crossing

Lots of new neighbors coming to little Camac Street

A new project was presented at East Passyunk Crossing’s July zoning meeting last week, and it represents a different type of development for the neighborhood.

Located at 1840-44 S. Camac St. and running through to Iseminger ( the now-defunct Mancini’s Catering building), the plan calls for the demolition of the catering hall and one other associated building, and the erection of seven new single-family houses.

The houses would front on an interior walkway, and the two end properties would have one-car garages opening onto Iseminger, which should help alleviate some of the neighbors’ concerns about the impact these new residents will have on parking. The two houses with parking are planned to be four stories, while the rest will be three. The uppermost level of each house will be set back to allow for a walk-out roof deck.

The building will feature a green roof and garden on top, a “green wall” at the rear, and outdoor seating for patrons along Morris Street.

More Outdoor Options Coming to the ‘Hood

Spring isn’t quite in the air just yet, but there sure is a lot of talk about sidewalk cafes.

At Wednesday night’s meeting of the East Passyunk Crossing zoning committee, representatives from the forthcoming Noord and the soon-to-be-relocated Artisan Boulanger Patissier presented plans to provide outdoor seating.

Imagine a few tables and awnings.

Soon to be Noord. Imagine a few tables and awnings.

Chef Joncarl Lachman of Noord, along with landlord PARC’s Sam Sherman, presented a plan to add four two-person tables outside their location at 11th and Tasker. Two tables would be on Tasker, and two on 10th. The windows on both sides will have retractable fabric awnings, and a new wheelchair ramp will stretch along the 10th Street side. Tables will be open until 10pm on weeknights and midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, per an agreement with the neighbors.
