Flat Iron opens in former Tony Luke’s Sports Bar at 26 E. Oregon Ave.

Flat Iron, a new bar and entertainment venue located at 26 E. Oregon Avenue, opened for business last week.

The “reconcept” of the Tony Luke’s Sports Bar space, which closed in 2012, looks to feature a unique customer experience complete with a “VIP room, dance floor, a stage for live music, multiple flat screen TV’s for the hottest games, a spacious dining room plus with a bar and a banquet room for on-site catering,” according to the press release from MBB Management.

Highlighted by the Jacked Mac’n Burger, a Frankenfood mashup that features a burger on a fried mac and cheese bun, the food looks to be a reimagining of traditional sports bar food.

New restaurant called Pub On Wolf coming soon to Whitman

Pub On Wolf, a new bar/restaurant on the corner of Front and Wolf streets, is currently under construction and looks to be about a month away from opening, according to owner Ronan Daly. We recently came across the construction while researching all of the recent action on nearby Swanson Street in Whitman.

Daly mentioned that they’re looking to do something a little different than what is typically seen in the neighborhood. Citing the fact that neighbors generally have to  head to Pennsport or Queen Village to grab a bite to eat, Daly will look to transform the former neighborhood dive bar into an experience similar to that of nearby pubs like The Industry, Moonshine, and For Pete’s Sake. So yes, there will be food.

Adventurer’s Mini Golf bringing indoor putt-putt to South Philly

South Philly is getting its own indoor mini golf joint. Adventurer’s Mini Golf, located at 38 Jackson St. in Whitman, is looking to open in May as Philly’s only year-round indoor mini golf course. With South Bowl in progress, Swanson Street from Snyder all the way down to Oregon Avenue could very well become the Philly’s next entertainment hot spot.

Tom Knabe, one of the guys behind Adventurer’s, is excited that they’re close to opening up shop.  “We are looking to open in May. We were originally going to build in the old Forman Mills but we ended up at 38 Jackson because it was a much better space for the layout we had in mind.” Adventurer’s Mini Golf has about 8,000 sq. ft. to work and will be located above still-operational Fright Factory on Jackson Street.
