Former Cooley’s Bar in Whitman to reopen as Otis & Pickle’s Speakeasy

The owner of the Spring Garden-based bar The Institute is planning a new concept for Whitman.

Owner Charlie Collazo is in the process of renovating the former Cooley’s Bar location at 3rd and Porter. This new bar, called Otis & Pickle’s Speakeasy, is expected to open in January of 2017.

From barren blacktop to colorful play space: Taggart School unveils transformed schoolyard

This year a number of South Philly schools have been planning some much-needed improvements to their playgrounds and outdoor spaces. The Taggart School in Whitman is one of the now-completed schoolyard transformations.

At the beginning of the month, a ribbon cutting ceremony was held for the completed renovation, and in the coming week, the schoolyard at 400 W. Porter St. will be open for the public to utilize.

Whitman Plaza will have a free trolley service through the holiday season

Now that ShopRite has found a new home in Whitman Plaza, the shopping center is full of tenants with food, clothing and quite a few other retail options throughout. Everything from Burlington Coat Factory to PennDot is located in the plaza.

To allow for easier shopping during the holiday season, Whitman Plaza will have a free trolley service running through the plaza from 11 a.m. through 9 p.m., Thursday through Sunday.
