About CHI DANCE
What is Chi and how does it relate to dance?
Chi is Mandarin for “breath” or “internal energy.” It describes the energy present within all of us: guiding our minds, bodies, and spirits through a focus on supporting movement and mindfulness with a connection to breath. In uniting dance and CHI awareness, children will develop an ability to move fully with knowledge of their bodies and discovery of their unique creativity in a peaceful learning environment.
Program Dates and Information:
Cost: $100 per student for 1 8-week session (Family Discount available)
Wednesday, April 2-May 28. (No Class April 16)
“Moving Stories” (Ages 4-6): Wednesdays 4-4:45 PM
In “Moving Stories” students will be guided to explore the possibilities of their imaginations through the dynamic world of dance. Students will develop gross motor skills and ignite their imaginations. Each class will draw inspiration from colorful characters, text and images that demonstrate the value of self-esteem, positivity and attention to our surroundings. Improvisational exercises, which build sensory awareness and responsiveness to the environment, help young movers understand the importance of respect for others and the world around them. Introductions to the concept of “CHI” will emerge from exercises in breath guided movement, nurturing an awareness of the internal energetic power that connects us all.
“Pre-CHI” (Ages 7-9): Wednesdays 5-6 PM
Instilling wonder in the dancing body, “Pre-CHI” students will be introduced to concepts of modern dance in a balanced curriculum of technical training and improvisation. Students will gain an understanding of how mindfulness can build physical and internal strength and flexibility. Each class will focus on a specific fundamental of modern dance technique with an emphasis on how the body functions in relationship to space, sound, and breath. Students will learn and perform sequences of movement in an environment that encourages self-discipline and respect for each other’s individual journeys.
