Whether the idea of improvising a scene scares or excites you (or both!), this workshop is for you. Learn a honed technique to easily create compelling unscripted scenes andmonologues for performance. Just as writers are advised to ‘write what they know,’ students will learn to improvise by drawing upon their own experiences, using emotional memory and substitution. Students will be delighted by the ease with which they createunscripted scenes in just one session. The second session will dive deeply into the work, melding the actor with the spontaneous playwright. We will practice the skills of deep listening, being present, creating a strong emotional point of view, integrating silence and physical contact with your scene partner, and developing the dramatic arc of a scene. Our scenes and monologues will be prompted by the questions asked in Exile’s 2016 season; vulnerability, intimacy, revelation, and honest response are our goals. This is a fun, freeing, supportive environment to explore the art of performingunscripted theater – take a leap and join in!
