Taproom on 19th Owner Brings Mike’s BBQ to East Passyunk

If you’ve been to any outdoor event in South Philly in the last couple of years, chances are you’ve encountered Michael Strauss’s passion project, Mike’s BBQ. But now, the mobile meat festival is putting down roots near Passyunk Square.

Mike’s BBQ will be located at 1703 S. 11th Street, the former home of South Philly Barbacoa.

Strauss told Michael Klein that the storefront Mike’s BBQ – which he hopes to launch between mid-September and early October – will be open three or four days a week, maybe four or five hours a day. “We’re going to do a limited amount of barbecue until we sell out,” he said. The mobile operation, which caters events and private functions, will continue.

Yesssss! I didn’t want barbacoa to leave but I understand why they wanted to. This is probably the best case scenario for a replacement as far as I’m concerned.

Agreed! I was disappointed Barbacoa chose to relocate, but this absolutely a great replacement!

TR19 is my go to in my hood, and Mike kills it on the Lang. His tent is a go to at most street fairs I end up at. Happy for him, and I will be a customer.
