Chickie’s Italian Deli to close at 1014 Federal St.

After more than 21 years in business, Chickie’s Italian Deli is closing at 1014 Federal St. on April 11.

The shop, which¬†considers itself the originator of the veggie hoagie, was listed for sale last year. Now that they found a buyer for the property, Chickie’s will be moving on from this location.

Chickie’s Italian Deli, up for sale, plans to set up ‘bigger, better’ shop nearby

The owner of Chickie’s Italian Deli, the self-proclaimed originator of the veggie hoagie at 1014 Federal St., has put his building and business up for sale. But Henry George apparently doesn’t plan to get out of the sandwich business.

The original price was a whopping $1 million for the business and apartment upstairs, a renovated bilevel 2-bedroom, 2 bath, according to Philly mag’s blog Property. It has since been lowered to $750,000 only a few weeks later.
