A.S. Jenks School installs stormwater drain art in LoMo

A.S. Jenks School at 2501 S. 13th St. is working to improve the surrounding community by spreading the message of “only rain should go down the drain.”

The school, in partnership with the Philadelphia Water Department, is installing student-designed artwork on storm drains to spread the message and prevent pollution.

Bonnie’s Capistrano Bar improves exterior with new signage, updated facade

Bonnie’s Capistrano Bar at 1503 S. 13th St. has been in business since 1974. Now that this neighborhood bar is over 42 years old, it was time for an upgrade.


The bar now has a outdoor new sign and upgraded facade, giving the old bar a new look.

Large vape shop opening in almost completed development at 13th and South

In the development being called the Residence at Twelve40, a pretty large vape shop is set to open on the ground floor.

This previously long-time vacant lot has now become a mix of 21 condos, 18 parking spaces and ground-floor retail at 13th and South. Also new to this corner is Sansom Kabob House, which opened up shop across the street in 2015. This intersection has seen a transformation over the past year, from vacancies to activity.

Blatstein’s plans for Broad and Washington include rooftop village, 1000 apartments

Since the preliminary plans were presented for Bart Blatstein‘s project for Broad and Washington, plans have shifted. In 2014, two residential towers with as many as 28-stories and 210,000 sq. ft. of retail space were expected for the property.

Blatstein’s development is now moving forward, with him seeking zoning variances for the site, and now unveiling the updated plans for this massive project. The plans for this development include 1,000 residential units, 143,000 sq. ft. in commercial space and 25,000 sq. ft. for multi-tenant office space.

With another grant secured, Columbus Square work set to begin spring 2017

The plans for the Columbus Square redesign are finally coming together, thanks to some additional grant money which secures the funding for the project.
