A look at renderings for the reuse of historic First African Baptist Church

At the beginning of 2016, developers purchased the First African Baptist Church at 16th and Christian. Since the church is on the city’s register of historic locations, the plans for development would need to involve the reuse of the building.

We now have a better look at plans for the historic location. The church, the rectory and the parking lot will all be transformed for use as a daycare facility, a five-story condo building and a single-family home.

What's Happening in:  Graduate Hospital 

Developers have purchased First African Baptist Church at 16th and Christian

In October of 2015, First African Baptist Church at 16th and Christian was added to the city’s register of historic locations. In the early 1800′s, this church was founded by freed slaves from Virginia. This current structure was then built in the early 1900′s.

The church has now been purchased by developers who plan to reuse the property, but with no specific plans at this point other than preserving the historic church.
