Lume Creative Learning Studios to open in former Boutique W location

The 1200 sq. ft. storefront at 1916-18 E. Passyunk Ave. is about to get a new tenant.


Lauren Parker, formerly the co-owner of Mew Gallery that closed at 9th and Christian in 2010, is opening a new creative learning studio with workshops for visual arts, movement and music. Lume is expected to open in January or February.

Bernie Sanders campaign office opens on East Passyunk Avenue

For the 2012 election, Occasionette’s location served as a campaign office for Barack Obama.

Now for 2016, East Passyunk Avenue is getting a campaign office for another candidate. Boutique W closed in this large storefront at the end of 2015, now Bernie Sanders will be represented with a campaign office in the location at 1916-18 E. Passyunk Ave.

Another one bites the dust: Sammi’s Shoebox closing after 76 years

Sammi’s Shoe Box, the place where your grandparents might have gotten their shoes as kids, will be closing after 76 years, according to a sign that popped up in the window last week.

We can’t say we’re surprised that the shop, at  1916 E Passyunk Ave., is closing. Back in April, we wrote that the store had been put up for rent, asking a whopping $4,500 a month for the 2,000 square foot space plus the basement. The price has come down.
