First Pics: Green Aisle Grocery opens second location in former juice bar

Sadly, !Juice! didn’t last long at 2241 Grays Ferry Ave. But it may be a net gain for the neighborhood as East Passyunk’s Green Aisle Grocery opened its second location in the former juice bar.

Owner Adam Erace said the new location is 1,000 square feet, about four times the size of the original at 1618 East Passyunk Ave. The bigger space also lets Erace and company spread its wings a bit. The Grays Ferry location has a kitchen to prepare foods such as salads, preserves, pickles, nut butters, hot sauce and more. Eventually, Erace plans on selling the prepared foods at the Passyunk store, as well.

“It will give us space to produce our private label line,” Erace said.

Green Aisle Grocery adding second location – with Little Baby’s ice cream counter

Green Aisle Grocery, what is possibly the smallest specialty grocer to ever exist, is expanding in a big way by adding a second location.

The new spot will be in the former Betty’s Speakeasy and Juice! space at 2241 Grays Ferry Ave., across from the recently announced pedestrian plaza near 23rd and South streets.

Brothers Adam and Andrew Erace are shooting for next month to open the new store, which will be about five times the size of the 260-square-foot matchbox at 1618 E. Passyunk Ave. The larger space means more options, including an ice cream counter from local cult favorite Little Baby’s.

First Pics: !Juice! opens at 2241 Grays Ferry Ave.

A new juice bar has opened in Graduate Hospital, called !Juice!, in the old location of Betty’s Speakeasy at 2241 Grays Ferry Ave.

The menu is divided into juices, foods, a kids menu and blends, which is another word for smoothies. The offerings include The Teacher’s Pet, Cool-aid, The Grape Gatsby and Winterized. Customers can ask for a shot of wheatgrass in their juice for a boost of energy. There’s also L’Aube coffee, and if you feel like it, you can bring some booze to make your juice into a cocktail. (Yes, that’s sanctioned behavior here.)

Owner Freda Kanterman said she and her business partners traveled to juice bars in New York and Los Angeles juice bars to get ideas, and took a few months of trial and error before they decided what juice recipes to put on the menu.
