SOSNA seeks feedback on 24th and Bainbridge pedestrian triangles

The most buzzed about pedestrian triangle in the area covered by the South of South Neighborhood Association tends to be the Grays Ferry Triangle at 23rd and South. While that may be the largest community gathering place, there are two more pedestrian triangles that SOSNA is seeking feedback on.

These two Grays Ferry Avenue triangles, located at 24th and Bainbridge, could be seeing some improvements “with the goals of enhancing safety for cyclists, pedestrians, and motorists and improving aesthetics.”

Fitness jungle gym among the improvements coming to Point Breeze’s Smith Playground

Smith Playground is seeing a complete revitalization. Plans for this community space include a remodeled recreation center, new solar panels, a resurfaced football field and more. With all of those improvements lined up, why not add in an adult fitness jungle gym too?

A fitness facility up to 3,000 sq. ft. is size is coming to the park at 24th and Jackson, including this new-to-Philadelphia concept of a jungle gym for adults to workout on.

What's Happening in:  Point Breeze 

New mixed-use development being planned for 24th and Wharton

It looks like a new mixed-use development could be making its way to Point Breeze. There’s already a lot of development being planned for this area, with 22 homes having been approved for 20th and Wharton last summer and another development with 46 single-family homes also in the works for that area.

Ground broken for Smith Playground revitalization

Ralph Brooks Park saw a transformation, which was unveiled at the end of August, with improvements including things like new sidewalks, an improved basketball backboard, a community garden shed, a mural from Steve Powers and more. Thanks to the success of that project, another park will be seeing some changes.

Now it’s Smith Playground’s turn to be transformed thanks to Connor Barwin, the linebacker for the Eagles, and his foundation called Make the World Better Project who are working to revitalize this 7.5 acre site. Ground was broken on Monday, December 28, for the project at 24th and Jackson.

$300k raised for Smith Playground revitalization project

Earlier this month we told you about the plans to renovate Smith Playground at 24th and Jackson after the success of the almost-completed Ralph Brooks Park revitalization project.

At a benefit concert at Union Transfer, which featured artists including Mac Demarco and Parquet Courts, the Make the World Better Project raised $300,000 for the Smith Playground revitalization.

Two major park revitalization projects moving forward in South Philly

Back in December ground was broken for the revitalization of Ralph Brooks Tot Lot at 20th and Tasker. That revitalization project expanded from just fixing pieces of Ralph Brooks Park to a full-on revitalization project, expected to be completed by August.

In addition to the work being finished up at Ralph Brooks Park, Smith Playground at 24th and Jackson is also being slated for a revitalization by the same people behind the Ralph Brooks Park project.
