Millennium Dance Complex Philadelphia coming to South Street

Plans are in full gear to redevelop the former Pearl Art & Craft building located at 417 South St. into an enormous dance/fitness facility called Millennium Dance Complex Philadelphia.

It was about a year ago that we brought you the news that Pearl was to be redeveloped into artist studio space with a rooftop restaurant. Now, the project will be completed in two phases, with the phase one to be ready by Nov. 28 — Black Friday — featuring a star-studded schedule of dance classes¬†from choreographers who have worked with the likes of Beiber, Justin Timberlake, Usher and Beyonce, just to name a few

South Street Arts Center with studios, rooftop restaurant proposed for old Pearl building

In what could be a huge shot in the arm for the eastern section of South Street, a local buyer has purchased the former Pearl Arts and Crafts building with plans to turn it into an arts center.

The plan is for 85 art studios over four floors (including the basement) with a retail/gallery space on the ground floor and a restaurant with sculpture garden on the roof. Studios, which start at $250 a month, will each have a shelf or gallery wall to show artists’ work.
