The Dutch ‘another charming new entry’ to South Philly breakfast scene, receives two bell review from Laban

After Fourth and Cross closed in Pennsport, a nicely renovated restaurant space was left empty. Lee Styer of Fond and Joncarl Lachman of Noord and Restaurant Neuf decided the spot was perfect for them to team up for a new breakfast concept called The Dutch.

The Inquirer‘s Craig Laban paid the restaurant a visit, giving it two bells. He applauds The Dutch for serving one of Philly’s more distinctive steak and eggs dishes, along with a pretty great eggs Benedict, but noted mixed feelings towards dishes including the banana pancake and the Dutch baby.

The Dutch sets opening date for late next week

Lee Styer and Joncarl Lachman’s new breakfast concept in Pennsport called The Dutch is moving along quickly. It’s been less than a month since we’ve told you about the new restaurant and as of late next week, this breakfast spot will be open for business.

This location was previously home to the short-lived Fourth and Cross. Former owner Andrew Michaels did a complete renovation of the location, which was formerly Bell’s Delly, prior to opening his restaurant. That made the spot pretty much move-in-ready for these two East Passyunk Avenue chefs, Styer of Fond and Lachman of Noord and Neuf.

Not A Rumor: BYOB bistro called 4th and Cross coming to 1527 S. 4th St.

It turns out that the rumor is true, and the restaurant coming to 1527 S. 4th St. will be like the “bastard child of Morning Glory and Parc,” says owner Andrew Michaels.

Yesterday, we brought you the news that demo permits were hung on the long vacant Bell’s Delly at the corner of 4th and Cross streets in Pennsport. Based on some unfounded rumors and a mysterious Facebook listing in a Google search, we hinted that it could be the beginning of a farm-to-table restaurant, a “neighborhood bistro, specializing in scratch made, locally sourced and sustainably grown food.”

Michaels told us the restaurant will aptly be named 4th and Cross. He plans to open in the spring.
