9th and Washington project developers hope to extend the hours of the Italian Market

In August, plans were presented for a 5-story mixed-use building with 18,000 sq. ft. of commercial space, 70 apartments, 8 single-family trinities and approximately 150 underground parking spaces for a long-vacant lot at 9th and Washington.

Midwood Investment and Development presented plans for the project again for community comment at a Passyunk Square Civic Association zoning meeting this month. At this meeting, the neighborhood expressed overall approval towards the project.

Rezoning approved by Planning Commission for 9th and Washington development

In August we told you about plans for a 5-story mixed-use development for the long-vacant lot at 9th and Washington. For this development to move forward, the lot has to be rezoned to accommodate for the height of the development and commercial uses planned for the location.

Yesterday the Planning Commission voted to recommend a bill to allow for the rezoning of the lot from CMX-2 to CMX-3.

PHS pop up garden could be coming to one of these vacant lots

The Pennsylvania Horticultural society is considering two South Philly vacant lots to be transformed into one of the pop up gardens in the city this summer.

At the Passyunk Square Civic Association meeting on Tuesday night, Jeffrey Barg of PHS presented to the public the two possible locations. The first is the vacant lot at 9th and Wharton which is set for development in the fall. The second possibility is the long-vacant Ice House lot at 9th and Washington in the Italian Market.
