Flavors On the Avenue Returns with One Huge Difference

Flavors on the Avenue returns for it’s 11th years with one huge change – this years event is moving from the big tent and into the street.

“The past 11 years Flavors has been a neighborhood favorite and successful, so successful we could no longer accommodate all who wanted to participate. We outgrew the big tent! Making it a street festival allows for more people to attend while giving¬† exposure to the Avenue as a whole and all that we have to offer,” according to Pam Zenzola, Executive Director of EPABID.

SBSNA hosting fundraising event for Broad Street Business Improvement District

In the spring, the South Broad Street Neighborhood Association hosted its first fundraising event to move forward with the proposal and planning for the creation of a Business Improvement District on Broad Street.

BIDs are meant to improve commercial corridors with added funding, bringing improvements, events and more to the area. To continue to raise money for the creation of a BID, SBSNA is hosting a second edition of BINGO! for a better Broad Street on Thursday, December 1.

What's Happening in:  Bella Vista 

No BID for the Italian Market

A Business Improvement District has been in the works for the Italian Market for years now, but as of a vote this week, the proposal is officially dead in the water.

Over one third of the businesses along the 9th Street commercial corridor voted against the formation of this BID, which would have brought streetscape improvements and more funding to the longest standing outdoor market in the country.

Pam Zenzola announced as East Passyunk Avenue BID’s new Executive Director

Recently the Passyunk Avenue Revitalization Corporation announced a new Executive Director. Now another East Passyunk Avenue organization has someone new in charge.

The Passyunk Avenue Business Improvement District has announced Pam Zenzola, who was previously president of the Passyunk Square Civic Association, as the organization’s new Executive Director.

Hearing to be held for the creation of an Italian Market Business Improvement District

The Italian Market has a rich history as the oldest continually operated outdoor market in the country, with 100 years in South Philly.

To make the market a better space, the creation of a Business Improvement has been discussed. In 2015, a number of public meetings were held to gauge community interest and create a plan for this BID that would allow for cleaning services, security improvements, more events and other changes to the area. Councilman Mark Squilla has now introduced a resolution to authorize a hearing to be held for the creation of this BID.

South Broad Street Neighborhood Association raising money for creation of Business Improvement District

South Broad Street Neighborhood Association currently covers the area from 13th Street to 15th Street on the east and west, and Washington Avenue and Oregon Avenue on the north and south. That neighborhood association is now working on plans to create a business improvement district within those boundaries on Broad Street.
