Spotted: Boot and Saddle returns, fully restored and brighter than ever

It’s been a while since the iconic Boot and Saddle sign has seen the light of day–or night for that matter.

In May, the sign on the rebooted bar and music venue was taken down for restoration. It made a brief reappearance in June, only to disappear once again. Over the weekend, the fully restored sign was reinstalled, lighting up Broad Street brighter than ever before.

Boot and Saddle’s sign reinstalled after restoration

UPDATE: On June 11 the sign was taken down again. No word yet on when it will be back, or the reason for the sign’s short-lived return.

Last month the iconic sign outside of Boot and Saddle music venue and bar at 1131 S. Broad St. was taken down for restoration.

We’ve gotten word that the Boot and Saddle, which opened with music and booze just over a week ago, will start serving its full menu on Sept. 20.

Even more interesting is the news that George Sabatino, who was named Best of Philly chef 2012 when he was still with Stateside, has been consulting on the B&S menu for owner Avram Hornik.

First Pics: Take a look inside the Boot and Saddle, which opened last night

Two years in the making, the Boot and Saddle finally opened last night with a concert benefiting the Street Tails Animal Rescue. Tonight will be the first ticketed event, with a show by The Both, which is made up of Aimee Mann and Ted Leo.

We made our way inside to snap a few icognito pictures, so forgive the dark, blurred images. But hey, you get the idea.

UPDATED: Work’s about to start on refurbishing the Boot and Saddle sign

UPDATE: There’s a new, earlier opening date – Monday Sept. 9. And Philly.com has a couple details about the plan for the food: “The kitchen will be open from 5 p.m. until 2 a.m. seven days a week, the bar will feature 10 rotating draft (craft) beer options and the backroom, which will host musical performances and dance parties, will open at 8 p.m. with shows starting at 9 p.m.”

Our eagle-eyed contributor Dan Berlin spotted some interesting action at the Boot and Saddle yesterday.

Scaffolding was being installed out front of the bar at 1131 S. Broad St., which would suggest that the promised refurbishment of that gloriously kitschy neon sign is about to begin.
