Typewriter Letters to Santa
Children of all ages are welcome to type a letter to Saint Nick on decorated stationary using one of Philly Typewriter’s vintage machines. Take your letter home to mail to the North Pole or bring it to one of East Passyunk Avenue’s Photos With Santa events.

Gold Star Park Winter Lights Celebration
Kids’ art activity and celebration of lights.

Winter Wonderland – South Street Headhouse Tree Lighting
Santa Claus will arrive on a firetruck, greet children, and collect their wish lists. Music, treats, and gift shopping will also be part of the event. CBS3 meteorologist Chelsea Ingram will help Santa count down to the official lighting of the tree at 5:00pm.

  • 10 a.m. World Cup screening parties continue on Saturday and Sunday, June 23-24, at Bardascino Park, 10th and Carpenter streets.
  • 12:30 p.m. & 3 p.m.  The Italian Market Project, is a 90-minute interactive adventure for audiences of eight to 10 people.  Learn about the past, present and future of the Market while enjoying snacks, beverages and puzzles. Five shows a weekend through July 1. Find more information here.

  • 12:30 p.m.  Mindfulness Meditation | Chair YogaFumo Family Library, 2437 South Broad Street. Ground your mind and body with Mindfulness Meditation and Chair Yoga. Spend a peaceful half-hour with a guided meditation. Chair yoga is a twist on traditional yoga, making it accessible for any age. This program is for adults. Newcomers welcome!

  • 6:00 p.m.  Healthy Mondays | Jams & Summer Salsas. Fumo Family Library. 2437 South Broad Street. Chef Dolores will demonstrate how to take advantage of the seasonal fresh bounty using summer fruits & vegetables to create mouthwatering Jams and Salsa in this cooking workshop.
  • 6:30 p.m.  Spinning YarnsFumo Family Library, 2437 South Broad Street.For those who knit and crochet, bring your latest project and enjoy a relaxing, low-key evening of crafting at the library.  All fiber arts are welcome. This program is intended for adults.

  • 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Woofstock Concert Series at Seger Park, 10th and Lombard streets. Weekly concert series welcomes dog owners and community members alike. This week: music by Aaron Parnell Brown and food trucks.
  • 7 pm.  KidFest: Firetruck Night. Mario Lanza Park hosts KidsFest on four consecutive Tuesdays in June at the park, 235 Queen Street. (mid-200 block between Catharine and Queen streets). This week: bring your bathing suits as the fire truck sprays the group!

  • 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Happy Hour at Anastasi’s. Anastasi Seafood. 1101 South 9th Street. What better way to enjoy the ever-warming weather than spending time with friends outside? Fresh seafood and delicious drinks at great happy hour prices.

  • 2 p.m. Jetsetter Tuesdays.  Get your passport stamped without leaving the library! We will set off to discover a new country each Thursday. Discover the food, music, language, culture and wildlife of faraway places.
  • 4 p.m. CrafternoonWhitman Library, 200 Snyder Avenue (2nd St. & Snyder Ave.) Join us for a new story and craft every week. For children and families. Children under seven must be accompanied by an adult.

Friday, 6/29/18

  • 10:30 p.m. Coffee & ColoringWhitman Library, 200 Snyder Avenue (2nd St. & Snyder Ave.). Color away your stress and enjoy a beverage with other community members. All coloring supplies, tea, and coffee will be provided.
  • 3 p.m. Build It!  Whitman Library, 200 Snyder Avenue (2nd St. & Snyder Ave.). Build with LEGOs, MagnaTiles, and more. Children under seven must be accompanied by an adult.

All summer long

  • Tuesday – Sunday. Visit the Pippi Longstocking Gallery at the American Swedish Historical Museum to introduce you child to the beloved children’s book character. This dedicated gallery brings to life the whimsical world of iconic Swedish author Astrid Lindgren with exhibits and a museum scavenger hunt. The museum is located in FDR Park, at Broad and Pattison Ave.

What's Happening in:  Bella Vista 

Delayed Cianfrani Park renovation resuming, expected completion in the fall

Last year we informed you of the capital improvements to Cianfrani Park at 8th and Fitzwater beginning. The plans include new trees, walkways and benches, the installation of a statue garden including the 100-year-old City Seal of Philadelphia statue and more.


The project had an original completion date of the spring, but due to a number of setbacks, the completion date for the project has been pushed back farther.

What's Happening in:  Bella Vista 

Capital improvements project moving forward at Cianfrani Park

For about four years now, Friends of Cianfrani Park has been working with Parks and Recreation and Councilman Squilla to move forward with improvements for Cianfrani Park at 8th and Fitzwater.

After years of talk, the project will finally be coming to fruition, bringing new sculptures and other upgrades to the park, beginning in October.
