Bike, pedestrian improvements on tap for South Broad

The city is planning to build a 1.1 mile bike and pedestrian path along Broad Street from Oregon Avenue to the Navy Yard.

The proposal for the project, which city officials are calling a “sidepath,” was released last month by the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission, Plan Philly reported. The path will be a wide trail with a buffer between the roadway, clear paint and signage, lighting and landscaping, like the 58th Street Greenway that was opened earlier this year in West Philly, the website said.

Redesign being proposed for Washington Ave. may make it become less chaotic

A new roadway design could be coming to Washington Avenue that would make the street safer for pedestrians and bicyclists.

Members of the public will be able to see the road configurations and give input at a public meeting  from 6 to 7:30 p.m. tomorrow night, Wednesday Oct. 23 at the Mummers Museum at 2nd and Washington.

The City Planning Commission will present its Washington Avenue Roadway Design Study at the meeting. Other topics up for discussion are traffic enforcement and safety, as well as parking and loading conditions (who hasn’t been stuck behind a truck unloading crabs or vegetables around 9th Street?).
