What ever happened to the plans for the Live! Casino? Two years later, still stuck in court

The last news we shared with you about the Live! Casino planned for Packer Avenue was related to the master plan’s approval and the necessary zoning changes also being approved. While the casino may have jumped through those hoops already, the real challenge is making it through the court proceedings that have stalled the Cordish Company’s plans for this casino.

Now that it’s been two years since the Cordish Company was awarded a license from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, what is happening with the casino? Due to appeals filed to the state Supreme Court by¬†SugarHouse and the Market East Associates, the project is not moving forward very quickly.

Live! Hotel and Casino receives feedback from Planning Commission

In November Live! Hotel and Casino was awarded the city’s second gaming license for a location at 10th and Packer.

The project made a presentation to the Planning Commission this week. The plans for this casino currently do not meet zoning requirements because of a lack of open space, among other reasons.

UPDATE: Do you want a casino at 10th and Packer? It could happen.

BREAKING: The Inquirer reports that that Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board awarded the second casino license to the Live! Hotel and Casino proposal this afternoon at a public meeting held at the Convention Center. The site is located at 900 Packer Ave. near the Sports Complex and will be developed by Cordish Cos. (Xfinity Live!) and Greenwood Gaming (Parx Casino).

 

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board announced on Friday that ¬†they would be holding a public meeting on Nov. 18 to award Philly’s long-awaited second casino license.

The rumor mill is churning and sources tell The Inquirer that the front runner of the four proposals is the Live! Hotel & Casino concept at the Holiday Inn site at 900 Packer Ave. The proposal is a joint venture between Cordish Co., owners and operator of nearby Xfinity Live!, and Greenwood Gaming, owner of Parx Casino in Bensalem.
