Rezoning approved by Planning Commission for 9th and Washington development

In August we told you about plans for a 5-story mixed-use development for the long-vacant lot at 9th and Washington. For this development to move forward, the lot has to be rezoned to accommodate for the height of the development and commercial uses planned for the location.

Yesterday the Planning Commission voted to recommend a bill to allow for the rezoning of the lot from CMX-2 to CMX-3.

Plans presented for proposed mixed-use development at 9th and Washington

Last week we told you about plans that would be presented for the 32,000 sq. ft., long-vacant lot at 9th and Washington in the Italian Market.

At last night’s Passyunk Square Civic Association zoning meeting, conceptual plans were presented for a 5-story mixed-use building that would have 18,000 sq. ft. of commercial space, 70 apartments, 8 single-family trinities and approximately 150 parking spaces in an underground lot.

What's Happening in:  Bella Vista 

Darien and Catharine Indego station now the largest in the city

Since Philadelphia’s bike share program, called Indego, launched earlier this year, it has become a popular method of transportation throughout the city.

With so many of those blue bikes being used, certain stations are expanding. The station at Darien and Catharine Streets has been a popular location, so additional docks were installed, making it the largest station in the city so far.

6-home development to replace fire-damaged Darien Street warehouse; bands try to recover

A warehouse fire on the 1400 block of Darien Street destroyed a practice space for Philly bands, but from the ashes might rise a new six-home development. The warehouse caught fire on Feb. 22. Arson is the suspected cause of the disaster, but, luckily, no one was hurt.

Subsequently, the empty-handed, displaced bands have turned their efforts toward replacing lost weapons of rock. The bands recovering include The Howling Fantods, JJL, and The Improbables.
