Teri’s bar on 9th will stay in the family, be open all day

Back in March, we told you that Teri’s bar in the Italian Market had been put up for sale for $600,000.

We recently noticed some changes at the bar – new gray paint on the front, outside seating including banquettes sometimes, no Teri’s sign – and thought that maybe it had been sold.

Teri's bar Philadelphia (2)

Nope. The bar, at 1126 S. 9th St, will instead stay in the family. And now they’re open from noon to 2 a.m. every day, with some killer drink specials. But no more food – not even tater tots.

Fond starts a happy hour deal

Fond has been pouring tasty wines at its new liquor-licensed fountain location for a few months now.

But if you like the look of the new place but happen to be on a budget, it may be a bit out of reach to grab a quick bite at the bar. Well, you can now with the new happy hour there, 1537 S. 11th St.

Fond 029

It does look really inviting, doesn’t it?

They’re offering $6 wines by the glass, $4 Victory drafts, and best of all for the uninitiated curious, discounted bar snacks for $7.

One little problem is that it only runs Tuesday through Thursday. Maybe with a little friendly encouragement, we can all get them to include Friday, and dare we say it, Sunday?

CORRECTION: Yep, Happy Hour is on Fridays too. Sorry for the mistake!

South Philly is for lovers, right? Things to do on Valentine’s Day, 14 and counting

Ohh, my heart! Isn’t that a-DOR-able?

Some people hate Valentine’s Day, but they’re all bitter. Kidding, kidding. But in case you were on the search for something to do that night, here are a few options, some more glamorous than others. We’ll keep adding to this list as we hear about more events. And if you know of anything else happening, leave it in the comments or email us at

To getting some!

1) For the veg crowd
Miss Rachel’s Pantry – Farmhouse Table Special Valentine’s Day menu at their Farmhouse Table.
3 nights – 2/14, 2/15, 2/16.

2) For the intimate experience

In lieu of the a la carte menu, Will is featuring a 5 course tasting menu for $65.  Will accommodate any dietary restriction.

3) For the Hater

Devil’s Den Anti-Valentine’s Day
Instead of serving love- or aphrodisiac-themed bevvies, Devil’s Den is offering $1 off beers that remind us of our exes.  Examples: Flying Dog’s Raging Bitch, Weyerbacher’s Blithering Idiot, Stone’s Arrogant Bastard, AleSmith Horny Devil and others.  The fun(?) starts at 7pm.

4) For the big spender

Ruby Buffet on S. Columbus is hosting a Valentine’s Day Lobster & Seafood Buffet on February 14 from 3-10pm.  $15.99 for adults, $8.99 for children ages 2-10.

East Passyunk Restaurant Week menus are out

We told you way back in November that the East Passyunk BID was going to throw a restaurant week, and now they’ve released all the menus.

And the best news is that it’s not all just chicken or salmon. We’ve been burned by restaurant week menus before in Center City, after having been lured in by the prospect of a deal and not interested in the two cheapest offerings on the menu. But Passyunk don’t play like that.

All the heavy hitters are there under the $35 category, including buzzed-about Will, Fond, Le Virtu and Stateside, but also old favorites like Mamma Maria and under-appreciated gems like Paradiso. But there is another $25 tier that features some great deals from the Cantina, Birra and Marra’s. Click through the jump to see a sampling of some of the better entree offerings.

Le Viet undercuts CC restaurant week with its own deal

To the hustle of hospitality industry folks and the delight of college students, suburban soccer moms and just about everyone else, Center City District will be rolling out their winter 2013 Restaurant Week next week from river to river in Center City.

Not wanting to be left out of the festivities because they’re south of South Street, sleek and modern Le Viet (1019 S 11th St) is holding their own incredible promotion, which started yesterday and runs through Feb. 1. Get a three course dinner for only $16.95 per person, half the price of the CC promo.
Unlike the bare and cafeteria like pho halls across Washington Avenue, Le Viet has a full bar and beautifully designed space easily worthy of a date night.

Se the full Le Viet Restaurant Week menu after the jump.

Sophia’s is starting a new happy hour

They may not have a sign yet, but Sophia’s already has what they call the best happy hour on Passyunk Avenue. Before the restaurant, which used to be Salt and Pepper, shuts down next month for a full remodel, they’re trying to get people in the doors with some early evening deals, which began yesterday.

Here’s the deal: 5-7 p.m. Tuesday to Friday, $6 appetizers, $3 beers, $5 wines, $6 cocktails. So does that make it Passyunk’s best happy hour? Hmm, it does offer more food than Stateside, and Cantina’s only goes till 6. Hmm…
Sophia’s, 1623 E. Passyunk Ave.

Meanwhile, you can now make reservations for dinner at Sophia’s on their website. Here’s the menu:

Mmm, delectable

Great Deal Alert: $20 off at Tashan

City Eats is a new competitor to OpenTable owned by the Food Network that’s trying to make some inroads in Philly (they’re also the website that named us on of The Ten: On The Rise in Philly, thanks again). They’ll probably make a lot of progress by offering deals like this (and no, we’re not being paid to shill, by the way):

Save $20 off at dinner at @tashan777 when you book on @cityeatsphilly and enter promo code “tandoor.”@koryaversa
— CityEats Philly (@CityEatsPhilly) November 14, 2012

This incredible restaurant is worth going to at full price, but when you throw in $20 for nothing, that’s just icing on the cake. Tashan also has a very good happy hour, with half off all drinks and lounge food from 5-7. Thanks Drink Philly for the link.
