Federal Pretzel Baking Company building on 7th Street to be demolished this week

Last fall we shared with you news about the plans for development of the former Federal Pretzel Baking Company building at 636 Federal St. The location had been shuttered years ago due to a fire.


Now the plans for the location are continuing to move forward, with the demolition of the 7th Street office building for the company planned for this week.

What's Happening in:  East Passyunk Crossing 

Demolition beginning on King of Jeans building

The King of Jeans sign was removed in February and fencing popped up around the location about a month ago, so it was only a matter of time until the demolition began on the former King of Jeans building at 1843 E. Passyunk Ave.

The demolition began on Monday for the construction of a 59-foot, five-story building in its place.

What's Happening in:  Point Breeze 

Old St. Rita’s school being torn down at Broad and Ellsworth; Cascia Center happening

Demolition has begun on the former St. Rita’s school at Broad and Ellsworth, the site of the proposed¬†Cascia Center, a “peacemaking” center that is now moving forward.

Cranes started tearing away at the building Monday, the day a demolition permit was issued. The demolition is for the ’50s era school, which closed around 1990 (not sure about that date). The shrine is not being touched.
