Are you a beer drinker who likes to run like Rocky through the streets of South Philly? How would you like to do both?
Then you might want to seriously consider joining the Passyunk Beer Runners. Get started with their special run on Nov. 8 called the Craft Beer Run/Bike/Crawl from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Put in 7.5 miles on a Saturday afternoon while grabbing a beer at four South Philly bars, seven in all.
There’s lots of stuff in this week’s To-Do List, which now includes listings from our new events calendar, as well as a smattering of other fun stuff from around the city. If you have something to add, please put it in the comments, or you can submit future events to our calendar here.
- Twelve beer bars around the city are participating in the Craft Beer Express. Buses will run a loop around the city from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. with stops at each bar. A bus pass costs $10 and includes unlimited rides for the day. South Philly-based bars will include Pub on Passyunk East, Brauhaus Schmitz, Devil’s Den, Jose Pistolas and much more.
- Dig out the old tweed blazer and hat in your closet for the annual Tweed Ride Philadelphia. The ride starts at 11 a.m. at the Water Works Restaurant and Lounge, stops for a picnic and comes to an end at Rembrandt’s in Fairmount. The event is free, but donations to Philabundance are accepted. For more information, visit http://tweedride.phlbikes.com/. You have to go if you have one of these bikes on the right of this picture:
Philadelphia magazine said in its latest issue that 15 of the city’s 50 best bars make their homes on or below South Street.
Buzzy spots like South Philadelphia Tap Room and Stateside made the list (14 and 37), but also places that are less likely to pop up on food blogs all over town, including Grace Tavern (28) and Fountain Porter (39).
Now here’s a charitable cause we can all drink to.
…you can drink sour beers with this week’s To-Do List.
Devil’s Den is hosting the Pucker Up 4th Annual Sourfest, which starts Saturday and runs all week until Sunday, Aug. 25. There will be sixteen draft lines dedicated to sour beers Saturday, and at least eight the rest of the time. Pay as you go. 11th and Ellsworth. Check out Joe Sixpack’s take on it here.
