Dickinson Square ‘not the best viable option for a dog run’ according to Parks and Rec

The dog run under I-95 may be taking steps in the right direction, but the other proposed Pennsport dog space may have reached the end of its course.

We’ve been following the plans for this dog-specific space for Dickinson Square from the survey that was initially released, to a public meeting that brought out the vocal non-supporters in May. Park and Recreation has now decided that Dickinson Square Park is “not the best viable option for a dog run.”

Practice yoga during Dickinson Square farmer’s market on Sunday

On Sunday mornings throughout the summer you can shop for fresh fruits and vegetables at the Dickinson Square farmer’s market. Now you’ll be able to indulge in some more healthy living with the addition of a weekly yoga class at the park in conjunction with the farmer’s market.

Starting in June, Yoga on the Banks will be bringing their outdoor yoga classes to parks throughout the city during farmer’s markets as a way to promote healthy living. In South Philly, you can practice your down dog in a Pennsport park that could eventually have a dog run.

Dickinson Square dog run meeting shows neighborhood disapproval, surveys show positive support

On Tuesday evening, Dickinson Square West Civic Association hosted a meeting to present the pros and cons of creating a dog run at Dickinson Square.

Dickinson Square Park

Despite the positive support the project has received from an online survey created months ago, the meeting took a different tone. The presentation of the dog park brought out the vocal non-supporters at the meeting of between 60 and 70 individuals.

Since so many South Philadelphians have fido friends, they’re looking to see if there’s enough interest to create a dog-specific space at the park.

National website names Dickinson Narrows 2nd hottest neighborhood in the country

That’s what Redfin seems to think. A list released by the real estate website predicted the top 10 hottest neighborhoods in the country, including South Philly’s own Dickinson Narrows.

More frequently called Dickinson Square West, named after Dickinson Square Park at 4th and Tasker, the area is the small gap between Passyunk and Pennsport, which is the strip of blocks between 4th, 6th, Washington and Mifflin. According to Redfin, it’s the most affordable and up-and-coming section of the city.
